2025 MLB Draft 3B Rankings
How I see the Top 26 third basemen for the 2025 MLB Draft
This is how I would rank the Top 26 third basemen in the 2025 MLB Draft as we start to approach the draft. This isn’t intended to be writeups on players, but just to give you an idea where I feel they rank with some comments related to that.
Note that this is the position these players are being drafted at and will likely get a look here first.
This is a pretty average-ish crop of third basemen. The top three is strong, and then there are a number of others who have a chance to be Day 1 picks. I’d say there is a drop off after the Top 3 in terms of quality, but there are some promising players beyond that. If there is a weakness I would say that the top group isn’t particularly heavy quantity wise.
The positive of this class is the top of the class gives a lot of upside. The first three guys all have a chance to be first round picks, and there is some All Star upside with all of them.
As usual one note is if you think a third baseman is missing, it is very likely because they are being included with the shortstops even if their likely future home is at third.
1.Xavier Neyens, Washington HS
Xavier Neyens is the top third baseman in this year’s draft. He’s a big slugger with potentially a double plus grade on his power. A former two-way player, he’s still refining his hit tool in terms of the swing and miss - but he does draw a ton of walks. There are some questions about him outgrowing third defensively, but he moves well enough and he has the arm to play third or in the outfield corners. He reminds me a bit of a Joey Gallo type of player (Gallo at the time of his draft), in that he’s a big kid with plus power now and more in the future, will take walks, has a big arm to play third or outfield corner, and has some hit tool questions. I was a big fan of Gallo in his draft, so it goes without saying I am also a big fan of Neyens.
